Broadband Phase 2

There's still more work to do to expand broadband access and keep up with constantly evolving and growing need for connectivity as new applications and technologies emerge. There's growing recognition that broadband is a critical service and that communities must keep up.

The Canadian Radio-Television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) has designated both

mobile and fixed broadband access as a basic service for all Canadians. It also set a goal of 50Mbps

download/10 Mbps upload speeds.

EORN was an advocate for this move and it continues to:

  • Identify where “50/10” speeds are not available and determine the estimated cost to ensure access to the CRTC standard across the region. A technical study is underway.
  • Develop a cost estimate to bring 1 Gig service to homes and businesses.
